Many of us are still reeling from last week’s tragedy.  Prayers and much weeping has been the comfort of many to be certain.  As those who lost the most begin their respective journeys to pick up the pieces and make sense of the tragedy, may the grace of the Lord Jesus comfort each heart.

Like many of you, I’ve listened since the tragedy, the mis-information, the speculation, the pundits, and the crazies, to varying degree’s of patience I might add.  As absolutely heart breaking as it is, to think of my own children, my 6 year old, and all the similarities that each and every parent associates with the situation, I can understand why so many are asking why?  When the separation of death strikes, it strikes to your foundation, which I know first hand.  Even with a solid foundation it can send you into a tailspin in this world, if you are not careful.  During the most difficult days of mine and my families life these are the words the Lord spoke to me: “My Grace is sufficient for thee”

2 Corinthians 12:9

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

At the time that is all I had, but it was all I needed.  In the hours, days, months, and years that have followed since that time nearly 5 years ago, I know exactly where I was when the word of the Lord came to me…I was enroute to the hospital on a lonely Montana road on highway 87 passing thru a little stretch named “the devils basin”.  It was the beginning of a journey that I shall never forget, but a story for another time.

For a good perspective from a friend of mine who has worked with youth of all dispositions in the ministry see his post here:

Many are searching for something to blame, be it the gun(s), the mother, and so many other good candidates.  To be honest, I was no different.  However for the last year or so there’s been an alarming trend with some murder/suicides within the confines of our American Fighting Men and Women… the correlation of SSRI’s and the increase risk of violent behaviors.  With a little searching, I found the below link:

If there wasn’t adequate links to the 4,800+ stories chronicled there my point would be ill made.  This is not the only link that will come from the tragedy of late, but let me leave you with a few things to think on.

My dear brother made the comment to me a while back to which I paraphrase…if men and women refuse to live by 10 laws, will they live by 10,000?

Isaiah 10:3

“And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? To whom will ye flee for help? And where will ye leave your glory?”
